Hi, I am researching my GGrandfather John Oliver. John served with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers in Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, Ireland in 1877 (as per birth records of his son Francis William Oliver 1877) He was married to Mary Leddy and had children Catherine born Liverpool 1883 and Michael (my grandfather) born 1885 Liverpool. Mary Oliver/Leddy remarried in Dublin in 1892. William Francis joined the Royal Welsh in 1892 and was invalided out in 1895. He subsequently served with the Free State army as per his marriage cert in 1922.
I would like to find where John Oliver was born, family records on his military papers/joined the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, served and if he died in service or retired out. Where William Francis served?
I have tried FindMyPast with no result, probably through lack of experience using the site.
I would welcome any info or assistance

I don't think that I can be of much help where John Oliver is concerned.

William Francis Oliver is a bit easier: at the time he joined, 1892, the 2nd Bn was at the Curragh Camp (the 1st Bn was in India). In Sept 1892 the 2nd Bn marched through Wales on a recruiting drive, and from Wrexham then was transported to Aldershot. In Sept 1894 the Bn then moved to Manchester, where it remained until July 1897.

Hope this helps. Others Forum members may know more.

John

Have a look at this old thread Brendan. It will hopefully help build up your subject knowledge. It might be worth sending a PM to Mike McCormick for advice.
