NOTHING OF IMPORTANCE
A Record of Eight Months at the Front with a Welsh Battalion October 1915 to June 1916
Author: Bernard Adams
ISBN: 184342133X
Available from www.naval-military-press.com at £11.95
The author joined the 1st Bn in October 1915 as lieutenant. He was initally a Platoon Commander in B Company(possibly 6 Platoon), before quickly becoming Officer Commanding B Company.
8 Months later in June 1916 he was wounded, hence part of the title.
He wrote the book whilst recovering from his injuries. He returned to the front in January 1917 and was mortally wounded a month later.
What I like about the book is that he describes in detail, the methods and tactics employed from Platoon level right down to Sniper Pairs. He also explains the tactics of trench warfare, including Mining and cratering. Adams also provides simple sketches and trench maps, and explains the layout of the ground, in a way that is easily understood
Any infantryman will find this book of interest.
