Published in 1977, this the personal account of Sgt George Newman of the 23rd Regiment of Foot(Royal Welch Fusiliers) who was captured by the Russians on the 5th November 1854 at the Battle of Inkerman during the Crimean War.
Newman's account of his period of captivity and trek through Russia is fascinating, very little of his story has been altered by the editor David Inglesant. It is compelling reading for anyone who has an interest in the Regiment, especially as Newman was a fellow mess member with Luke O'Connor, and it certainly paints a picture of their life.
