Peter Glynn's little book on the first war year of 4/RWF mentions L/Cpl Alf Boyes. He landed with the Bn in Nov 1914 and was promoted to full Cpl within a month. His home was in Henllan Street, Denbigh.

Unfortunately the Medal Index Card for Alfred Boyes does not give a landing date but carries the registration number 200579 (A/Sgt), which suggests that he landed after the TF renumbering of Feb 1917. The original registration number is not mentioned.

I think that there may have been another MIC, which has been lost.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Forum members from Denbigh, perhaps?

Bore da Al. Yes, Alf Boyes 200579 was killed in Palestine in Nov 1917. But there are no other MICs for an Alfred Boyes of the RWF. Was he wounded in France, evacuated to the UK and then posted to the 25th and for some reason given a new MIC? ? Was he another Alf Boyes? If so, where is the 'original' Alf's MIC? It's not unlikely that the local paper at the time mentioned Alf, of course, which might offer a way to find out more. Hence my appeal to forum members from Denbigh...

Hope springs eternal.

John

PS the 200xxx number firmly puts him in 4 RWF at the time of renumbering, of course.
