Last week saw the 1st XV of the 2 R WELSH RFC win 27 – 7 against 3 YORKS in the Quarter Finals of the ARU Cup. The match was the last home game of the season and was preceded by a really well attended casual curry lunch with a number of serving and ex Regimental officers, plus the Warrant Officers, gathering in the Officers’ Mess.
The game itself was without doubt the best performance of the season and was remarkable for some extremely impressive performances, particularly in defence. The YORKS, made up of 12 serving officers, played to their strengths, by recycling the ball quickly and producing some expansive rugby that tested the defence right across the pitch. Fortunately the backline was up to the test and the forwards’ power allowed 2 R WELSH backs to run in some smashing tries.
In the other Quarter Finals, 1WG overcame 1 R WELSH, 23 Pnr beat the tournament favourites (in some eyes) 17 P&M and 1 SCOTS overcame 2 RIFLES. The Semi Finals, held at RMAS on 15 Feb will see 1 WG v. 23 Pnr and 2 R WELSH v. 1 SCOTS (a rerun of the group game which ended in a 22-22 draw).
The games will be played in front of the Kaboos Pavilion at RMAS on 15 Feb with the game starting at 1230 (2 R WELSH v. 1 SCOTS) and the second Semi Final at 1415 (1 WG v. 23 Pnr).
The team are always grateful for your support so if you are free and are able to pop down it would be super to see you.
