Ladies, Gents,

A very good friend of mine has spent the last 2 years writing a draft copy about his time spent in Iraq as a PSC contractor. I would like to ask if anyone can give any advice on who to speak/email/see about the process on getting his draft to a publisher and eventualy into print. I have spent the past month reading it and it is an excellent read.... (a few ex RWF lads are mentioned!!) It gives a very detailed insight into the lives of the PSD world, the people, the characters that do the job on the ground.....

Any help will be much appreciated

Regards

I'm not sure how it works in the UK but he might want to try a literary agent first. Or a few even. If they're interested, they'll offer the book to publishers and get a good deal. Or some people send the first few chapters to publishers and wait for a reaction or an offer. Good Luck.

Hi, I don't wish to put the mockers on this but just a bit of advice from the heart!
J.K. Rowling of Harry Potter fame spent 2+ years peddling her first book to publishers. The majority of first time published books are self-funded cost range from £3k upwards (small independant publisher with a very limited outlet for sales) depending how you get them distributed. An agent will cost you at least a 20% fee if they think the book is a starter. They will also take an up-front payment to publish and market your book. It's a cut-throat business!
If you have any connections with a published author i.e. in this instance someone like Andy McNab then they maybe able to get you an in withan agent/publisher.

That's cool - I've read some Lena Kennedy books, great down to earth and relaxing reading.
