It is with great regret that I announce the death of Major Richard 'Dickie' Randell MBE on 21 April 2010, aged 89 years.
Dickie joined Sandhurst in 1939 and was commissioned into the Welch Regiment. He served with the 1st Battalion in the North African campaign, and 53 Middle East Commando in Abyssinia. He was captured in 1942 at Benghazi and repatriated a year later because of severe leg wounds. After the War he served with 1 Welch in Italy, Hong Kong, Pembroke Dock, Luneburg and Cyprus. After two tours with the Kings African Rifles he became Range Officer at Warcop and Sennelager before retiring in 1975.
His funeral will be held at Ashby Folville Church, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire (LE14 2TE) on Friday 14 May at 1200hrs, and afterwards at Lt Col Richard Randell’s home at Capon Gate, Ashby Folville, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, LE14 2TT.
