I am looking for information on my father, a bloke called John Morris. From llangollen north wales, born 1940 something, served with the 1rwf between 1963 to 1972.I know he was stationed in hong kong in 1971 because i was born whilst he was there, and then we went to northern ireland in 1972.Thats about all i know, does any one recognise his name,he was lance cpl when he finished.one of his mates was called Peter Brown, who was also in hong kong at the same time,,any info would be fantastic..many thanks..

I was there at that time but can not recall a John Morris, sorry. There are lots of guys that are on this Forum from the Hong Kong days. Can you tell us what Company he was in? Was he a sportsman? Did he have a nickname? Any other info might help us find John in some of the many photos on this site.

Have you got a photograph that you can upload? That might trigger a few memories of someone who knew him only as a nickname perhaps, Good luck mate.

I last saw my father in 1946, in 2007 I tried to trace him to find out if he had died etc, I did find his grave and seven half brothers in 2008.
May I suggest you try doing what I did start at the beginning ie your birth certificate and follow the trail from your birth, a birth certificate can give you a lot of information such as fathers details and normaly if you were born whilst your father was serving as it sounds he did it should have his rank and name and number which is a very good starting point as it will help members of the forum to remember your father.
If you want a copy of a birth death or marriage certificate you can obtain them from the Registrar Generals offce as long as you can give name and dates, you can do it on line and it is not too expensive and very easy.
Hope this helps and the best of luck.
Joe.

Well i have found out a few things, and hopefully this might jog a few memories.Apparently his nickname was ( molly ).he was living in cefn mawr, close to wrexham.and when we were in northern ireland in 72,he was performing regimental police duties. i have got part of a newspaper,(ulster supplement) with him in and lots of other soldiers, including col.sgt frank dolan,l/cpl bob taylor, fus roy jasper,l/cpl syd williams.sgt/major dick hughes all from the wrexham area,

No memories jogged yet ? L/cpl John Morris,In Hong Kong 1971,northern ireland 1972,Nickname possibly MOLLY,good friend was CPL Peter Brown. From Llangollen,he was in rwf for 9 years, and left i think middle to late 1972,he was born 1941,so would have been 30 when in hong kong.i got some pics but not being to good on pc is there anyone that could post them for me if i mail them to you, many thanks

Thom15

If he was an RP in Derry he would have been with Tom Sal the Prov Sgt at that time. Perhaps some Forum members "visited" the guard room in the early 70's and were taken to the cookhouse by Molly, however, they may be a little shy to tell their stories. A photo is the way to go, perhaps someone from the UK will let you send the photos to them so that they can upload them for you. If that fails then you can send them to me in Canada.
Good luck
Dilwyn

Why dont you check the names on the supplement against the active Members list, most user names give the true identity of the member others a clue, its worth a try.

During the Derry tour, In Nelson Drive, we had a Guardroom, which was used to patrol the estate and Clooney Park, which was further down the Road, near the Brigadiers/CO's houses.

That's better, now we know who we are looking for. The individual photo seems familiar but I can't say we were drinking buddies. However, Bleddyn 04 may be able to help. You are right Gwyn he is very active on Facebook.
With a little luck someone will remember John and possibly find more photos.

Can i also ask what the numbers after the names are for.
and also, after reading the post on (looking for keith roberts) people are worried about security(and rightly so)but on the photos i put on the site ,namely the ulster supplement, about 25 soldiers names all with there exact adresses on,Wasnt the early 1970s a real bad time out there,,

Jason..
from AP1..on the kieth roberts thread.
i agree Chow, I think republicans have more important things on their mind, than a squaddie from 35 yrs. If their that desperate for targets they can have a whizz through facebook, at least they will have some up to date pics of RWF guys. I would pull the NIVA post if its a problem..
and yes the 70s were bad years for troubles..and i personaly wouldnt post anything that might compromise me or anyone ...
